LifeStraw Personal Water Filter

Lifestraw Dirty Water

What if I told you that you could buy a straw that instantly cleaned any water. So basically you could drink from the toilet with this straw and while drinking it would filter your water to be clean. OK maybe you’re not going to try it but the Lifestraw Water Filter is an award winning product. Supporting over 1 million children in Africa!

Jokes aside, although I would love to see someone on a video test my theory, the Lifestraw is ingenious. A perfect and welcomed accessory to a camping or hiking enthusiast, and a god send for the survivalists out there.

It works using an advanced hollowed fibre membrane tech. Inside the membrane are microscopic pores, they catch any shit larger that 0.2 microns. So basically the water can travel through but all of the dirt, parasites and bacteria won’t get through. It removes E.Coli, Giardia and Cryptosporidium oocysts, and many other waterborne contaminants, in a nutshell 99.99999% of all waterborne bacterias. Thus giving you crystal clear and most importantly safe drinking water.

Lifestraw

Back to the children in Africa, the guys over at Lifestraw donate one to a small child in Africa for every Lifestraw that is purchased. So far they have given clean water for a year to around a million children. We salute you Lifestraw well Vestergaard, the creators.

There are not chemicals used and no need for batteries. The Lifestraw uses a filter system, once the filter starts to run out you simply replace it. You will know when it has ran out too, because you won’t be able to draw water through it any more as it will stop.

With just one filter though you can filter up to 4000 litres of water, so you won’t be replacing the filter anytime soon.

Made from plastic and hollow fibre and weighs just 57 grams. Nice and compact making it highly portable at just approx 22.9cm x 2.5cm x 1cm. Put it in your rucksack or in your pocket and off you go on your adventures. It features a handy strap as well so you can wear it as a necklace if you like.

So let’s probably not drink our own urine just to test the theory behind the Lifestraw, but you can drink from rivers, lakes, the sea and other water bodies safely.

OK back to the urine…It seems that it’s already been tested. Watch the video below to see the Lifestraw in action.
